These Campaign Champions Are Powering Our Future

In honor of Northeastern’s 125th anniversary, 125 staff and faculty members from across the university system are empowering the community as Experience Powered by Northeastern campaign champions. Three campaign champions who proudly embody the Northeastern spirit and invest in the future of the university are Ryan Bender, Corliss Thompson, and Daniel Medwed.

Giving the Gift of Global Exploration

It’s been said that to travel is to live—a philosophy that rings true for Kelly and Matthew Thomas and their sons Joe, AMD’18, and Max, Khoury’20. They’ve gained life-changing experiences from traversing the world, and now they’ve generously given the next generation of students the chance to do the same, by establishing the Joe Thomas Explore the World Fund and the Max Thomas Explore the World Fund.

2023 Compass Awards Program

The 2023 Compass Awards recognized nine exemplary students from the senior class who have demonstrated dedication to a core set of values: leadership, volunteerism, academic integrity, and commitment to Northeastern. And as part of the Compass Awards program, two additional students received the Wendy Breen Kline Award and the Garnet Award.

Navigating a Purposeful Path

As a child, Dr. Lauren Speeth’s family moved from New York to New Delhi, where her parents co-founded a school for Dalits, people who occupy the lowest echelon of Indian society. “That experience opened my eyes to poverty, inequality, neglected diseases, and illiteracy,” says Speeth. It also propelled her to lead a purposeful life. Today, she’s supporting Northeastern students as they become environmental advocates, researchers, and leaders.

Northeastern to Host 2023 Global Leadership Summit in Accra, Ghana

Northeastern will host its fourth annual Global Leadership Summit in Accra, Ghana, from Wednesday, March 8, to Saturday, March 11. The summit will provide networking and learning opportunities, foster understanding of Ghana’s historical sites and events and their global effect, and offer ways to create collective action and invest in the local community.

Making An Impact, One Keystroke at a Time

Since the onset of COVID-19, there has been a greater awareness of keeping our personal spaces clean—especially with potentially harmful bacteria aplenty in offices and labs. To help Northeastern combat this challenge, the Bhatt Foundation gifted the university more than $50,000 worth of medical grade antimicrobial keyboards.

Raymond B. Ludwiszewski, Class of ’81

I met Professor Cord on my second day of on-campus freshman orientation. His liberal political views and my conservative political philosophy clashed dramatically at a cocktail party to welcome incoming freshmen, and I foolishly engaged him in an hourlong debate in...

Brent J. Bass, Esq., Class of ’92

The recent passing of Dr. Robert Lewis Cord will no doubt set off reflections and memories for many Northeastern alumni, former colleagues, and friends. Professor Cord’s legacy will be defined by his impact upon and everlasting connection to his students, small and...

Michael McQuade, Class of ’80, ’82

Dr. Cord was my Constitutional Law professor during my senior year at NU, and in all of my years of schooling, right through graduate school, he was by far the best teacher that I ever had. He made it his mission to ensure that all of his students were fully engaged,...
