These Campaign Champions Are Powering Our Future

In honor of Northeastern’s 125th anniversary, 125 staff and faculty members from across the university system are empowering the community as Experience Powered by Northeastern campaign champions. Three campaign champions who proudly embody the Northeastern spirit and invest in the future of the university are Ryan Bender, Corliss Thompson, and Daniel Medwed.

Giving the Gift of Global Exploration

It’s been said that to travel is to live—a philosophy that rings true for Kelly and Matthew Thomas and their sons Joe, AMD’18, and Max, Khoury’20. They’ve gained life-changing experiences from traversing the world, and now they’ve generously given the next generation of students the chance to do the same, by establishing the Joe Thomas Explore the World Fund and the Max Thomas Explore the World Fund.

2023 Compass Awards Program

The 2023 Compass Awards recognized nine exemplary students from the senior class who have demonstrated dedication to a core set of values: leadership, volunteerism, academic integrity, and commitment to Northeastern. And as part of the Compass Awards program, two additional students received the Wendy Breen Kline Award and the Garnet Award.

Making An Impact, One Keystroke at a Time

Since the onset of COVID-19, there has been a greater awareness of keeping our personal spaces clean—especially with potentially harmful bacteria aplenty in offices and labs. To help Northeastern combat this challenge, the Bhatt Foundation gifted the university more than $50,000 worth of medical grade antimicrobial keyboards.

The Legacy of a Generous Heart

During Doreen Hodgkin’s 35-year career at Northeastern, she counseled students and faculty alike. In retirement, she continues to make an impact though the Doreen Hodgkin Student Emergency Fund, which provides financial resources to undergraduates in need of support.

Budding Scientists are Making Waves

Thanks to the Halverstadt Family Summer Internship Program, students at the Marine Science Center are collecting field samples, cataloguing data, and channeling their curiosity alongside skilled investigators—while developing their own scientific skills and lines of inquiry.
